I’ve been lucky enough to come down here to Florida with some friends for spring break. That’s right, I have a week of sun, sand, sea, and… barefoot running? Yup. I’m not a huge fan of this “Born to Run” craze, but some barefoot running on the beach has been wonderful. (And with the racing season beginning with a half marathon in ten days, I can’t afford to miss much training.) Running alongside the ocean has a spiritual quality to it, especially in the morning while it is cool and few other people are outside. (What kind of spring break is this with me up early in the morning? Shouldn’t I be sleeping off a bender until the middle of the afternoon?)
Apparently it snowed both at home and school yesterday. But it’s time to forget about that because here comes the sun to another day in paradise. Better spend it outside (and not just because the apartment we are in has begun to smell a little funky). If only I brought my triathlon wetsuit, I could practice exiting the swim also.
I’m leaving for spring break in Florida in less than 36 hours. (Don’t worry, I still plan to figure out a way to workout while I’m there. We’ll be in the Panhandle, so the water may need a wetsuit for swimming.) I had quite a bit of produce in my refrigerator (some from a week or two ago), and I knew it would go bad if I left it there for another week. So what did I do? I got my blender out and turned on “liquify.” Now I have over a liter of “vegetable juice” chilling in my freezer (haha). Hopefully it turns out okay one defrosted.
(Maybe I can take it with me and have some “gin and juice” while sitting on a beach?)
Generally I am not a super fan of the naked old men who let it all hang out after swimming. I think it’s just a generational thing. Today, though, a nice old naked man showed me how to use the spin drier for your swimsuits. No going home carrying a wet swimsuit today. Yay old naked men!

Today was a day off. (So I’ve been eating handfuls of these GF/DF little joys on and off all day.) Life was a little busy, and my back is a little sore from a swim yesterday. So today is a day off. Here instead are some workout updates. Keeping myself accountable. 1.14.13-1.22.13. Alright!
1.14.13 - Swim: 3500yd total. 650yd warm up/drills; MS of 3x750yd (13:55, 14:05, 14:02); 600yd drills/cool down
1.15.13 - Day Off because of a tight left hamstring. Gotta get back to that yoga.
1.16.13 - BRICK: warm up of 15 min cycle/1 mile run; MS of 5x(10 min cycle/1k run @ 4:10/k); cool down of 10 min cycle
1.17.13 - Run: 3.0 miles. (It was that day when your shoes magically decided they’ve had enough miles and no longer want to work.)
1.18.13 - Swim: 3500yd total. 500yd warm up/drills; MS of 5x500yd on 10:00; 500yd drills/cool down. Cycle: 90 minutes with lots of long hills and short intervals at the end. (I got my peak wattage up to 514 during one of the intervals!!)
1.19.13 - Run: 12.0 miles. (Magically it was in the 40s for one last day. Def moved the long run to take advantage of that.)
1.20.13 - Cycle: 3 hours on the trainer.
1.21.13 - Cycle: 3 more hours on the trainer while the snow outside piled up. (I did find an extension cable so my laptop didn’t have to run off battery the whole time. Finished catching up on “The Biggest Loser” and then some Netflix. “Surviving the Cut” is extremely motivational for when you workout, BTWs.)
1.22.13 - Swim: 4000yd total. 500yd warm up/drills; MS of 2x500yd, 2x400yd, 2x300yd, 2x200yd, 2x100yd all on 2:00/100yd; 500yd drills/cool down. (The 500yd were both under 9:00 which is a first for me!!)
Back at it tomorrow with some swimming and/or running! Go triathlon!!
